Our aim is to introduce current tendencies and strategies in Scandinavian libraries to the English-speaking world and create a forum for stimulating and constructive dialogue.

Scandinavian Library Quarterly, until 2012 known as Scandinavian Public Library Quarterly, goes back quite a long while – in fact it was first published in 1968.
It is published jointly by the Nordic Public Library Authorities in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, each country taking it in turn to host the main editorial office for a period of five years.

From January 2012, the office is placed in Stockholm at the National Library of Sweden, the editor-in-chief is Annika Hjerpe and the responsible publisher is Christina Jönsson Adrial.

It is our belief that the Nordic public libraries must have a voice in the international library world. We have a unique story to tell about:

  • libraries – even in sparcely populated regions
  • networking
  • establishing high quality, relevant content on the Internet
  • bridging the virtual and the physical library
  • outstanding library architecture
  • information policies in some of the strongest democracies in the world.

Now that SLQ also is available online, the stage is set for topical discussions.
Ideas for possible future articles are always welcome, as are your general comments.
